More sticky rice to start this day off in Da Lat. This time at a lady that has been serving up various styles of sticky rice for over 42 years. A popular spot that locals grew up eating as you can see many kids eating before they head to school. Out of the three versions I tried, picking a favorite is nearly impossible as her sticky rice shines as the star of the meal. Perfectly cooked from years and years of perfecting her craft.
Now for something that is a Da Lat special. The Banh Mi Chao. High levels of inferno heat over a cast iron plate with decadent ingredients such as: pate, mayo, cheese, butter, meat, and oil. Screaming hot when it arrives at your table and screaming to have Da Lat’s special Banh mi dipped in it. One of Vietnam’s most indulgent dishes.
Now for one final meal, but this time it is a combination of two. First I had to go and grab some of my favorite snacks, Banh Trang Trong and Goi Xoai. Now the main making these is something special. He used to live in Saigon, but moved to Dalat three years ago. For me, he holds the title for the best Banh Trang Trong and Goi Xoai in Dalat and possibly in Saigon.
After I grabbed the snacks, I headed back to city center for a dish you can only find late at night, Hot Vit Lon. Now, while not for everybody this is just something I have to have a few times every week. The perfect after dinner snack or even pre meal. My favorite thing to do is combine hot vit long with other snacks like the banh trang tron so I can make the ultimate meal.
