If you like street food, join us as we explore the “Old Downtown of Manila” district, also known as Quiapo. It is famous for the Quiapo Church and the annual festival of the Black Nazarene. Quiapo is also known for its variety of cheap eats and delicious street food. In this video, we go in search of street food. We make many stops ranging from soups, sweets, and fried or grilled meats. Forest finds a delicious dragon fruit juice stand and later makes friends with the sweetest street vendor. It is a full day of eating! The flavors and textures are fantastic contrasts of sticky rice and grilled squid, fried fish balls, and mini “martabak-style” pancakes. We were actually in search of balut, a poached chicken embryo. Unfortunately, we never found it in Quiapo. Who knows, we probably passed it without even knowing it (or maybe it is served at a specific time of day)? However, we did find it days later, and we can’t wait to show you that video.

We are the Bags Packed Family: Jonathan and Kelly with our three children. We sold our home in Alaska, USA, eight years ago, and headed overseas.
